1. Library survey results
For those who missed the Vice-Chancellor’s email of 4 November,
please read her assessment of the Library’s 2009 survey:

'The Council of Australian Libraries has a regular survey tool that
allows universities to benchmark their performance against other
universities and previous years. The results of the latest survey for
RMIT, conducted in August 2009, indicate improvements across all
variables since 2006. Most important it shows high degrees of
satisfaction with library staff and the service they provide. The
results in relation to staff service and performance place RMIT Library
in the top quartile of results, well above the median performance.

'It is important to congratulate all the Library staff and to recognise
the improvements they have made over the last three years. On a scale
of 7, Library staff rated strongly on a range of items including library
staff treat me fairly and without discrimination (6.31), library staff
are approachable and friendly (6.14), library staff provide accurate
answers to my enquiries (6.07), library staff are readily available to
assist me (5.93), and face to face enquiry services meet my needs
(5.87).

'The areas that need improvement relate to our facilities, specifically
the availability of computers and finding a place in the Library to
study. There are improvements in responses on the availability of
electronic resources and material on the shelves, though there remains a
need for more investment in these areas as well.

'The Library is a critical support for students and staff. It is
really pleasing to see an overall score on this survey of 77.7% (what
might be called a distinction grade), significantly above the 2006
results. With further investment in facilities and resources there is
no doubt that a much stronger result could be achieved next time.'
